This weekend saw a young, ginger chap of average height visit for three nights only. He attended a concert in St James’. And we know he had a great time. The region went mad for the concert, the build-up was giddy, people travelled from far and wide to attend. That particular ginger chap was Ed Sheeran and he sent the North East mad.
Newcastle as some of you who have spent a lot of time here will know it is a vibrant city centre with plenty of energy. It is not often Newcastle lacks personality day or night, it’s the sort of place no matter the day or time there will always be something found to do. Whether it’s a cosy coffee shop, symphonic orchestra, breath taking walk or a wander around one of our museums, there’s no denying Newcastle has a lot of heart. She may not be big but she is certainly bold.
The people of the North East went wild for Sheeran and he could be heard booming out over the city all weekend from the open aired concert at St James Park. Saturday afternoon saw the historical Bladon races dash through the city centre and it’s safe to say that if the city ground to halt on Friday for the arrival of Ed, it was certainly standstill Saturday afternoon and was falling over itself, buzzing with excitement with anticipation of the rest of the weekend. Bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants were jammers and town felt electric. It might just be a small city but she certainly stood up and sang at the top of her lungs this weekend.
Going forth for the rest of the summer The Great Exhibition of the North will be sweeping the city from 22nd of June through until September. If this last weekend is anything to go by the summer is set to be a great one in Newcastle!
